2017 marks a new chapter for Miss World Philippines. The pageant has gained renewed interest from the general public and beauty pageant aficionados, after the franchise was awarded to Mr. Arnold Vegafria of ALV group of companies.
This year we also saw a record of 62 applicants who submitted for the prized title of Miss World Philippines 2017. These ladies came from all over the country and even abroad. Also we saw a record number of “independent” candidates who made it to the official roster of finalists who are not associated with any of the popular beauty camps.
It also marks the first time that the reigning Miss World and her court are in attendance in a national pageant. This includes Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle form Puerto Rico, Miss World Carribean Yaritza Reyes from Dominican Republic, Miss World Asia Natasha Manuella of Indonesia, Miss World Europe Lenty Frans from Belgium, Miss World Africa – Evelyn Njambi from Kenya, and Miss World Oceana Mdeline Cowe of Australia, Mr. World Rohit Khandewal of India, Beauty with a Purpose executives Scott and Gina Holmes, and Chief of the Royal House of Mandela and Honorable member of the Parliament of South Africa, His Royal Highness Chief Mandela is also in attendance. Heading the delegation of MWO is non other than its president Julia Morley.
Chief Zwelivelile Mandelsizwe Mandela is the eldest grandson of former president Nelson Mandela and is the head of the Royal Household of Mandela. He is as well the leading member of the African National Congress and a member of Parliament for the Republic of South Africa.
An exclusive welcome press conference for the Miss World contingent was held yesterday September 1 at the Glass house of New World Hotel in Makati with selected members of the media was in attendance.
The delegation will be visiting the different charities and beneficiaries of the Beauty of the Purpose Program includes Jose Reyes Medical center, Tuloy Foundation of Father Rocky Evangelista, Philippine General Hospital pediatric ward, Paraiso the Bright Beginnings project.
Miss World Philippines Organization, established in 2017 is headed by Arnold Vegafria ably aided by Bessie Besana ad General Manager, VP for marketing Ryan Clemente and Chief Consultant Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
