GOLDEN TARA, THE SYMBOL OF CARAGANON
Noli A. Berioso for OPPMB Worldwide
Golden Tara, a 21-karat Majapahit gold image of the Hindu goddes Tara found in Esperanza, Agusan here in the Philippines way back in 1918 is the inspiration of Dia Nicole Magno’s national costume for Bb. Pilipinas 2019. Together with 39 other creations by local designers, Dia’s intricate costume is an all gold ensemble designed by Jearson Demavivas who made the winning costume of Catriona Gray at last year edition of the pageant were unveiled to the viewing public last May 7 at the Gateway Mall in Cubao, Quezon City
The Golden Tara was discovered by Bilay Campos, a member of the Manobo tribe. It was stolen inside Bilay’s traditional Manabo house and resurface in the house of area Governor. For unknown reason, the artifact was put on auction and due to financial constraints, the local government was unable to purchase the Tara. It is now under the possession of Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois.
During the opening day of the photo exhibit, Dia says the that Golden Tara is the representation of the Gold in the Veins of every Caraganon. The designer also incorporate the Balangay and the cloth bearing the five tribes of Caraga – the Manabos, Mamanwas, Banwanon and the Mandaya tribe for fully understanding of the region’s cultural background.
On May 29 at the New Frontier Theater, Dia will represent the rich culture and history where she was born and bred.
“I am CARAGA by and for”. Thank you for all the love and support – Dia Nicole Mancao Magno, Bb. Pilipinas 2019 candidate representing CARAGA Region, Butuan City.
