Former beauty queen and Mutya ng Pilipinas President Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo is currently participating in an arts festival in metro south.
Dubbed as Arts South Festival, an annual exhibition of various form of human making ranging from painting, drawing, graphic, sculptures, photography, etc is being held at The Tent of Filinvest in Alabang, Muntinlupa City from March 23-24.
Now on its third season, the exhibit is expected to attract arts aficionados and collectors where they can choose to buy from the various works of professional and amateur artists.
Tamayo started her passion on painting way back years ago. It started as a hobby after giving birth to her eldest son, but many of her friends and associates in the business noticed her God given talent specifically in interpreting abstract figures and images. In the past years, the hobby also turned out to be a profitable form of art where most of her works were sold.
Hemilyn is now a member of the United Women Artists’ Association of the Philippines (UWAAP), a group of professional women (doctors, interior designer, real estate broker, nuns, professors and others) where they have a common inclination toward arts.
Her co-rotarian in District 3800 Dr. Mel Malabuyo introduced her to the organization headed by Menchu Arandilla, a professional visual artist. Arandilla says that the organization has more than five hundred members nationwide, fifty of which are active. She further explained that the group aims to promote arts through public awareness and encourage young Filipino artists to excel in their chosen fields.
Aside from her fondness of painting, Hemilyn is also busy managing Beauty Lounge Manila, a salon located at the ground floor of Help College System Dalta in Las Pinas.
She will be taking a break from pageantry for the meantime to devote her time to her husband and kids and to their other business establishments.
