PHILIPPINES WELCOMES MISS EARTH 2012 AFTER WORLD ECO-TOUR
19 OCTOBER 20012, MANILA – Reigning Miss Earth 2012 Tereza Fajksova finally returns to the Philippines after featuring in a series of environmental advocacy activities around the world. The environmental awareness and conservation activities are being spearheaded by Miss Earth organizers in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Tereza was crowned as Miss Earth 2012 in a pageant held in the Philippines last December 2012. She is currently serving her duties as the lead eco-ambassador for Miss Earth’s environmental awareness and conservation campaigns.
Tereza is targeting to create a “Learn, See, and Do” project for the environment. “This project will involve convincing and influencing governments around the world to make environmental studies compulsory in early education. If children learn about the environment from an early age, they are more likely to continue this behavior in their adult years,” says Tereza.
With more than a decade of eco-service to the world, the Miss Earth pageant has continually produced beauty queens, who serve as eco-ambassadors inspiring worldwide cooperation to promote and work towards a sustainable Earth. As the Miss Earth headquarters, the Philippines will again take the lead in promoting global eco-tourism geared towards poverty alleviation and societal change.
Lorraine Schuck, the organizer of Miss Earth says, “The Miss Earth Team will continually call for the cooperation of private organizations and governments to make our environmental efforts sustainable. The environment we live in will reflect on the kind of life we have.”
Schuck recognizes that the nationwide and worldwide campaigns of Miss Earth will not be as effective without the help of the Philippine government and the governments of countries around the world. “We need to work hand-in-hand with our leaders for they are the ones given the power by the people to implement what is good for the people,” she adds.
Besides environmental commitments, Tereza is returning to the Philippines to welcome the arrival of around one hundred “beauties for a cause” this November. The queenly delegates from countries around the world will come to the Philippines to compete for the coveted Miss Earth crown.
Speaking about the engagements of the delegates, Miss Earth President Ramon Monzon says, “These international eco-ambassadors will promote initiatives that preserve global natural resources and adopt the United Nation’s declaration of year 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation.” He added that Miss Earth shall work hand-in-hand with the ABS-CBN Foundation to promote poverty alleviation through eco-tourism.
The pageant activities shall culminate in the crowning event in December. As a pageant with a global reach and significance, Miss Earth 2013 will be telecast live on Star World on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 8:00PM and on a delayed basis on ABS-CBN on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 10:00AM. It will also be telecast at a later date over The Filipino Channel and some broadcast networks of participating countries.
