Bb. Pilipinas 50th Year continues to give back with Operation Smile

More than just a showcase of the most beautiful Filipinas of the world, Bb. Pilipinas is also all about giving back especially to young children. Now celebrating its 50th year, the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant continues to give back through charities, among them Operation Smile and Department of Health. This year’s pageant is presented by the Araneta Center, San Miguel Brewery Inc., Ginebra San Miguel, San Miguel Food Corporartion, Petron Corporation and San Miguel Global Power. The newly chosen Bb. Pilipinas 2013 official candidates, reigning Bb. Pilipinas 2012 winners, and Smile Ambassador Shamcey Supsup visited the Sta. Ana Hospital to assist in the operation of kids with cleft deformities. The life-changing medical mission is an offshoot of the partnership between Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. and Operation Smile forged two years ago. Operation Smile is a private, non-profit organization which holds medical missions in various partner countries. The organization was founded by Dr. Bill and Kathy Magee who came up with the idea after a cleft repair mission in the Philippines in 1982. Smile ambassador Shamcey Supsup was one of the selected candidates of the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant who participated at the Operation Smile mission conducted in Sau Paolo, Brazil in the same year. “My concept of beauty totally changed when I was first invited to assist in an Operation Smile mission during my stint as Miss Universe Philippines”. Shamcey shared. “It is humbling to know that a person’s life can be changed dramatically simply by transforminghis smile. I am truly proud to be part of this endeavor”. OPMB would like to thank the entire BPCI organization for the wonderful accomodation during the event. Reported by Jory Rivera, Melvin Sia and Noli A. Berioso.
