Beauty queen, entrepreneur and philanthropist Hemilyn Escudero-Tamayo, met members of media at Wang Fu Chinese Bistro in Tomas Morato Ave., Quezon City last August 19 before she leaves for the 8th Mrs. Universe Pageant and Forum to be held at the Sunway Resort in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia from August 21-28.
Married to PAF reserve Major Richard Antonio Tamayo, Hemilyn will vie alongside 45 other accomplished married women from all over the world for the annual pageant that honors the success of women regards to their families, careers and contributions to society.
The new franchise holder of Mrs. Universe here in the Philippines is Mr. Francisco Gareth Z. Blanco, Jr.
Mrs. Universe also strongly advocates to, stop violence against women and children.
This is the first time that the international pageant is being held in Asia. There will be a swimsuit round for the contestants but they will be wearing one piece swimsuit only. All the ladies will required to be decently dressed all the time.
The reigning Mrs. Universe is Carol Lee of Malaysia. Previous winners came from Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Findland, Venezuela and Colombia.
Previous Philippine delegates to Mrs. Universe were: Camila Kim Galvez ( 2009 Mrs. Universe 2nd runner-up), Muriel Moral (2010), Erilene Noche-Tumali (2011), and Joy Castillo-Pasidis (2012).
Aside from being a beauty queen, Hemilyn is also a philanthropist, model, TV host, image consultant and beauty pageant trainer. She was Mutya NG Pilipinas 2005 finalist, Ms. All-Nations winner at the Ms. Globe International 2005 pageant, Miss Petite International 2006 finalist and Best In National Costume winner, and Miss Global Asia winner at the Miss Global City 2008 tilt.
Hemilyn studied Financial Mangement in Texas, USA and is product of Charlston School of Protocol and Etiquette and Fashion Image Institute in San Francisco. She is the founder of Total Image, Inc.
