SHARIFA AKEEL CONTINUES TO INSPIRE LESS FORTUNATE KIDS AND TEENS THROUGH HER LIFE STORY.
By Noli A. Berioso
Reigning Miss Asia-Pacific International 2018 Sharifa Areef Mohammed Omar Akeel visited the head quarter of Advocates for Children and Elders International Philippines Inc. (ACE IPI) last May 25 in Paranaque City. The program is part of Sharifa’s advocacy with the help of Junior Chamber International Manila chapter, a non-profit and non-governmental organization, consisting of young people between 18-40 years old.
ACE-IPI President Virginia M. Bruce graciously welcomed the visitors from Miss Asia Pacific Inc. represented by their Marketing Head Mr. Mark Charles Salecina (aside from Sharifa), representatives from JCI led by Mr. Michael Raquiza Vice President of the Gabay Aral Program and selected members of the media to cover the event.
About fifty youths were in attendance and was inspired by Sharifa’s life changing story. From being an underprivileged child in a remote barrio in Sultan Kudarat, she went on to tell her life and how she was able to finish her study (she is now a licensed teacher) and an international beauty queen title holder. She revealed her own mantra during her speech; respect yourself, respect others and re-write your life story.
ACE IPI was erected way back in 2005 whose main concern is to conduct outreach programs for children and elders. Members of the foundation were basically residents of Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Caloocan, Mt. Province, Batangas and Cagayan de Oro.
Personal wellness and dental mission are also part of the weekend’s program. JPI and ACE IPI were partners for years now in improving the life of the less fortunate but qualified and deserving students by sending them to school and provide their basic needs.
Sharifa will continue the advocacy of Miss Asia Pacific International which is Beauty in Diversity before pass her crown to her successor this coming October.
