KAREN GALLMAN RARING TO WIN PH’s FIRST MISS INTERCONTINENTAL CROWN ON HOME SOIL.

Filipino-Australian Karen Gallman said she is eager to keep the ball rolling for Filipina beauty queens and shine the spotlight on the Philippines, where the Miss Intercontinental pageant will be held later this month.

Gallman, the last to compete among last year’s batch of Bb. Pilipinas queens, was given an exclusive send-off party by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center last Thursday, January 3, just before delegates from other nations start arriving on January 8.

“With Miss Intercontinental being held in my nation, it makes me very proud because not only I’ll have my country supporting  me there on stage  every minute, but because it gives everyone on the outside the chance to see our amazing country”, Gallman said.

She also acknowledged the pressure of trying to win the crown, which has so far eluded the Philippines in the pageant’s 47-year history.

“It’s a given when you are representing your country, and in addition, no Filipina has won the crown yet. So, yes a little. But having said that , I don’t want to pressure  myself but instead try  to be as present as much as possible and enjoy the journey”, Gallman said.

Last year’s bet Katarina Rodriguez, came close to finally winning but settled for a first runner-up finish, while Mexico’s Veronica Salas took home the crown.

To finally secure the crown, Gallman said she has been working on her walk, eating healthy and practicing for the question and answer portion.

She is also using her time to various worthy causes. The 26 year-old former London based trade analyst was appointed by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process last September as one of the country’s peace ambassadors. Before Christmas, she volunteered in various orphanages. She said she considers peace, education and children’s welfare as the causes she’s most passionate about.

“Using the power of such great pageant has allowed me to share my voice as one of the Peace Ambassadors for my country and has given me the opportunities to participate and help out in charity works, which I am forever grateful for.”, Gallman said.

Gallman is hoping to ride on the momentum created by Binibining Pilipinas sister  Catriona Gray’s scintillating victory in Miss Universe just last month.

Japan is actually serving as the host nation of the pageant, but because of logistical concerns brought by its hosting the Olympics in 2020, it has decided to hold the contest in the Philippines instead. The coronation night is slated on January 26.
