RIZA ASA, PHILIPPINES BET FOR MRS. WORLD 2013
Rizalina Del Rosario Asa, a housewife and a business woman based in Portland, Oregon USA is the Philippines representative for Mrs. World 2013 in Guangzhou, China from November 14 to 23.
, Riza is not just another ordinary plain housewife living in the United States of America. Her hard working attitude and determination touched other lives set as bench mark to many Filipinas here and in abroad. Her resilient attitude towards about everything is her secret to a very successful life.
Born under the zodiac sign of Capricorn fifty summers ago to parents Bartolome De Rosario and Marina Bonifacio in Santa Monica, Hagonoy Bulacan, Riza (as she fondly called by her peers) grew up in a humble home in her native province. Despite of many obstacles and life challenges, she finished her elementary education at the Tampok Elementary School and her high school at Hagonoy Institute with flying colors. “I can considered myself lucky at that time because our parents were supportive of our schooling in spite of the hard times due to economic recession”. She took up B.S. in Custom Administartion at the Philippine Marinetime Institute in college. “My first job after graduation was at the Asian Pacific Brokers, It’s a worthwhile job I can say, and I was able to help my family to have a decent living. Somehow, my position in the company honed my potentials to become a more responsible and dedicated not only as an employee but also as a private person”.
At the turn of the century, Riza met Frederick Asa from a well known political clan in Puting Kahoy, Lipa Batangas and in 2003 they got married. The couple decided to migrate in the United States. “My in-laws were based in Portland Oregon. They owned and operate a nursing home for aged citizens. It’s a very challenging and stressful line of business, but I can tell you that the most rewarding part of business is not the monetary aspect. We are more concerned of the end result evaluation of each patients that went to undergo the therapy”. Because of the very encouraging feedbacks, the couple decided to build their own version of private home for elderly. “Our main service is called “Traumatic Brain Injury” or TBA and we can proudly say that it’s one of a kind in the US. Our entire team at the nursing home were all proud to be of service to elderly people who needs extra love and care to ease them up from their illness”.
In addition to her many accolades, Riza is also a beauty queen in her own right. She was proclaimed “Mrs. Portland Phil-Am 2010”. “Actually, my title enables me to reach out to more Filipinos in Portland and in the Philippines. I was able to stand up with the title’s advocacy to help our kababayans who were usually victims of natural calamities”. Riza is also active member of different clubs in the Oregon (Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce, Kapampangan Organization of Portland and La Pieta Prayer Group International). “These clubs main purpose is to uplift the life of our fellow Filipinos here not only emotionally but more importantly in spiritual aspect”. Her husband Fred was also elected President of Filipino-Amercan Association and Vicinity of Portland, Oregon. The couple became a household name to the Filipino Community in Oregon because of their worthy projects and undying support to their fellow Filipinos living there. “We even staged a huge fashion show here and we invited selected local designers to show their creations and at the same time to promote our local fabrics and the Philippine made couture”.
Riza was blessed to have two wonderful children. “My eldest is Maria,26 and she used to be part of German Moreno’s show in GMA 7 until she got married to PBA player William Wilson of Barangay Ginebra. She is now a mother herself to a very beautiful and healthy baby girl. During the typhoon Pedring aftermath, she formed a group of volunteers to help our kababayans in Hagonoy, they brought basic needs there like water, food and medicines. “Parang namana ng anak ko ang aking pagiging matulungin and I am very proud of her good deeds. My youngest is seven year old Ashon and he’s in Grade One back in Portland”.
During her spare time, Riza and her amigas goes to ballroom dancing session. “I really love dancing and it makes me feel energetic, pang alis ng stress ha ha ha…. I also goes to gym for my regular workout and occasionaly I jogged with my husband. I must admit na kailangan na natin yan, I am not getting any younger”. She also has a passion in cooking. She told this writer that her version of Filipino dish Adobo is to die for. “The secret of my Adobo lies on the combination of condiments. I use a popular brand of sauce, apple sider vinegar, pepper and sugar. I am a healthy food buff so most of the time I prepared vegetables and fish based dishes”. Riza looks every inch a successful and contented woman. “At this stage of my life, the only thing that I can ask from Someone up there is continues peace and love within our family and of course for the country to gain more respect from the rest of the world”.
Like many of today’s strong women, Riza Asa will definitely continue to shine like a precious gem, exuding beauty and strength to inspire other people to make their life worth living for. Goddluck Riza in your quest for Mrs. World crown!
